CHICAGO MAYOR DECLARES "HOUSE UNITY DAY"
Aug 3, 2005 7:23 PM
Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, in celebration of the 21st anniversary of House Music, has declared August 10, 2005 “House Unity Day.” (Full declaration text at the bottom of this press release.)
The declaration coincides with the 21st birthday of Trax Records, the label that put the underground dance music known as “House Music” on the international pop culture map. Such a Chicago institution is Trax Records that the City of Chicago has invited the label to participate the city’s wildly successful Summer Dance Series with their very own party.
Organized by Brian Keigher, Program Director of the City of Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs, the Summer Dance Series is centered around (or on, rather) a 3500 square foot dance floor especially constructed in the Spirit of Music Garden, located at 601 S. Michigan Avenue.
The "free for all" party will be headlined by respected Chicago DJs Marshall Jefferson and Jesse Saunders and hosted by The Queen of House herself, Trax Records president and resident diva “Screamin’” Rachael Cain.
