THURSDAY, SEPT. 18
Remix Magazine Presents: In Session With Artist TBA (4 p.m.)
Kicking off Remix Hotel Atlanta’s panel series, a Remix editor will sit down with a top Atlanta-based artist to discuss the making of a recent track. In addition to covering the writing and creative processes, the conversation will include recording techniques and real session files.
Remix Magazine Presents: Mixing by the Numbers—Frequency Ranges for Musical Elements (6 p.m.)
Many remixers and producers find mixing to be a mad science shrouded in mystery, but understanding how to place certain musical elements within frequency ranges can take you from the Twilight Zone to your comfort zone when it's time to mix down. Our expert panel will walk you through the elements of a typical mix—from the drums tracks to the effects and atmospheres—showing you how to carve out space for each one within the audible frequency spectrum.
Remix Magazine Presents: What’s the Score? Musical Collaboration for Film and TV (8 p.m.)
Learn the nuts and bolts of bringing audio to life for both film and television, from all aspects of the creative process. In addition to the composers, this panel will feature sound and video editors, music supervisors and more.
FRIDAY, SEPT. 19
iStandard Presents: ATL—The New Hot Bed of Urban Music (4 p.m.)
The city of Atlanta is no doubt the new hot bed for urban music, from hip-hop and R&B artists (Outkast, T.I., Usher, Ne-Yo) to major executives (Jermaine Dupri, Shakir Stewart). This plus the city’s various writers, publications, producers and more has set up Atlanta as the premier birthplace for urban music talent in the U.S. Listen in as reps from all sides of the scene discuss how it all started, why the South was ripe for it and where it’s headed in the future.
Remix Magazine Presents: Songwriting for Producers (6 p.m.)
Producers and songwriters discuss the process of writing music, from kick-starting fresh ideas and constructing compelling arrangements to handling the ups and downs of artist collaboration and conquering creative ruts.
Remix Magazine Presents: The Path to Enlightenment—Signal Chains for Recording and Live Performance (8 p.m.)
Before you hit the Record button or the stage, the debate rages on what to do or not to do with the signal path for the vocals, drums, keyboards and so on. This panel will explore the best options for which processing to put on a signal before it goes into the multitrack recorder or the front-of-house mixer.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 20
iStandard Presents: Atlanta’s New Producers (4 p.m.)
iStandard's “new producer” panel will feature some of Atlanta's top aspiring production talent in the hip hop, R&B and pop genres. The panel members will discuss their industry experiences, hot placements, new technologies, marketing strategies and successes within the Atlanta market and beyond.
Remix Magazine Presents: Live or Die—How to Develop a Dope Live Show (6 p.m.)
Whether you DJ, sling hip-hop or rock out, one surefire way to stand apart from the pack and build a rabid fan base is to blow people away live.
