VJ LOOPS, ANYONE?

Need some visual loops for your VJ sequences? Check out VJ Anyone's Nite Lites (DVJ Vision, 2007, www.dvjvision.com), a 30-minute sequence of loops traveling the nighttime streets of Tokyo, New York and London and running at 120 bpm with 4/4 editing. Also out from VJ Anyone (aka Oli Sorenson, who has worked with Tiësto and was recently voted the No. 3 VJ in the world by DJ Mag) is Graph Beats (DVJ Vision). The 30-minute rhythmic sequence reveals 3-D landscapes, geometric shapes and graphics. This should satisfy your VJ fix for a while….

NO MONEY DOWN

The Mixx Project has released Mixxx 1.5, a free/open-source DJ software program for OS X, Linux and Windows XP/Vista. Although somewhat stripped down, Mixxx's powerful features include bpm estimation, dual scrolling waveform displays (for MP3, WAV and Ogg files) and support for MIDI controllers. The new Mixxx 1.5 had added independent adjustment of pitch and time stretch for tracks. Exercise that X key at http://mixxx.sourceforge.net.

BOW-CHIKA-WOW-WOW

What could be more entertaining than reading a book of porno-flick reviews? Not much if you ask Remix. But Vice columnist Chris Nieratko has put a new twist on porn reviews in Skinema (Vice Books, 2007). Nieratko “reviews” more than 150 pornos by not actually discussing the movies; instead, he regales us in his often drug-induced exploits and weird memories of ex-girlfriends. Whether he's talking about a high school chum's mom who banged his friends or how he rescued a stalker from choking on her own vomit, Nieratko is hilarious.
