Editing and manipulating audio has improved by leaps and bounds during the past 10 years. Users have long been able to alter the pitch, timing and formant of an audio track. And a few of the more specialty products could also correct or lock the pitch of an audio track to a certain note, but this functionality was essentially limited to monophonic tracks. Finally, it seems this last hurdle has been cleared. With the new Celemony Melodyne 3, users can finally edit the pitch of polyphonic audio tracks. This is a huge advance for producers and remixers. For instance, rather than retracking an entire rhythm-guitar track, you can now nudge a sour chord back into place or time-correct the track without losing the original intonation. With Melodyne 3, editing audio is now just about as easy as editing MIDI data. For more information, visit www.melodyne.com
