Mar 12, 2007 5:08 PM

At the Skillz of the Trade ”hands-on” hip-hop production seminar in New York City (and via webcast) this coming weekend, aspiring producers will learn the nuances of being a well polished hip-hop producer. Attendees will be educated in a computer based classroom by actual industry producers who have worked with Wu-Tang, Roc-a-fella Records, Def Jam, Jive, Motown, Universal and many other labels. Some of the hands-on classroom topics include: track creation, creative sampling techniques, the best equipment to use, where to get your sounds, creating a signature sound, sound design, music theory, mixing and mastering. It is also an attendee’s opportunity to learn and network with some of the best in the business.

The producers and engineers involved in the seminar include Dame Grease, who has crafted songs for DMX, Kelis, Mobb Deep, The Lox, Slick Rick, Nas and even scored several films. The Heatmakerz are a Bronx based superstar production crew consisting of Rsonist, Weatherman and Thrilla. They have produced hits for Fat Joe, Cam’Ron, Diplomats, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana, Junior Mafia, M.O.P, CNN, Lil Flip, Twista and I-20 of Ludacris DTP Label. Also onboard are Wonder Arillo (T.I., Ludacris), Grammy winner Easy Mo Bee (Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., Alicia Keyes, Busta Rhymes, Lil Kim) Focus (The Game, Cam'ron, and Tony Yayo) Remix contributor Stoni and Grammy award winning mastering engineer Don Grossinger.

Beyond classes, Skillz of the Trade will offer a product exhibitor's hall, the Listener's Lounge, where you can play you music for A&R reps from major labels, giveaways and the King of the Ring Beat Battle, where the prize is in Open Labs Miko workstation.

The price to attend in person is $300, or you can order the webcast for $39.99. The webcast includes more than 12 hours of instruction, sounds from P5Audio, software for working along at home, a copy of the Skillz of the Trade DVD, one track submitted to A&R and a certificate of completion. A portion of the proceeds goes to help victims of police brutality. Visit Skillz of the Trade to register.
