LAST GANG RECORDS

Style: Multigenre, including electro-techno, alternative pop, rock, punk, club/dance

Established: Last Gang Records was formed by Canadian music-industry attorney Chris Taylor and Pollstar Hall of Famer and renowned concert promoter Donald Tarlton in the fall of 2002 at the Pop Montreal Music Festival.

Artists: Death From Above 1979, From Fiction, Emily Haines, Femme Fatale, Metric, MSTRKRFT, O'Luge, Panurge, Tiga and Tricky Woo

Essential Listening: Metric, Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? (2003); Death From Above 1979, You're a Woman, I'm a Machine (2004); Metric, Live It Out (2005); Tricky Woo, First Blush (2005); From Fiction, Bloodwork (2005); Emily Haines, Knives Don't Have Your Back (2006); MSTRKRFT, The Looks (2006); Panurge, Walking in the Fog (2006); Tiga, Sexor (2006); O'Luge, The Luge Sessions (coming soon)

Manifesto: “The label is a safe haven for recording artists who are going to change the world in their own musical way,” says Chris Taylor, president of Last Gang. “It's not for the obvious choices or the bands that are being coddled by the music industry or even consumers. It is an acquired taste for people who are seeking extraordinary, intelligent approaches to presenting music. It's for bands that haven't been able to find their home — the underdogs.”

A&R Philosophy: “We are putting all of our focus on the currently signed acts and are not accepting demos,” Taylor says. “Then again, you never know — maybe you'll be the next Gang member.”

Upcoming: Gang on the run! Shows, shows and more shows. MSTRKRFT, Emily Haines, Metric, Tiga and Panurge are all on tour in support of their latest releases.
