LABEL LINK True Intent Recordings-progressive drum 'n' bass finds a new home.

Sep 1, 2000 12:00 PM, Dave Longo

San Francisco is still among the most vital creative centers in the United States for drum 'n' bass music, so it's no surprise that it provides a base for one of the most progressive independent U.S. labels specializing in the genre. Formed by DJ Arc Angel Gabe Real, a dedicated drum 'n' bass advocate who regularly spins vinyl at Bay Area clubs and events, True Intent Recordings supports innovative, adventurous artists by offering them a sympathetic outlet for expressing their creativity.

"True Intent Recordings provides our artists with fair deals," says Gabe Real. "We came across too many artists who were locked into deals not favorable to them. At True Intent, the artist is our first consideration-before the label, even. We're actively involved with the drum 'n' bass scene in San Francisco, which is massive, so that puts us in a good position to act as worldwide ambassadors for our artists."

The label has released 12-inch singles by Aural Imbalance, Forensics, Howard Hughes, and Subversive. True Intent's records are distributed in the United States by TRC, Watts, Syntax, and Groove and in the United Kingdom by Vinyl Distribution. Labels including Cadence and Nu Directions have released several True Intent recordings in the United Kingdom.
