Established: In spring 1993 by Joel Leoschke and Bruce Adams in Chicago. Leoschke and Adams started the label with the express intent of releasing the first album by Labradford.

Manifesto: “Kranky's main goal is to release music that the owner-operators think they'll want to listen to 10 years from now,” Adams says, “and to treat the artists fairly and maintain our independence.”

A&R Philosophy: “Kranky does accept demos,” Adams continues. “We know what we're looking and listening for, but it's hard to explain it to anyone else.”

Upcoming: Look out for new albums from Bird Show, Out Hud, Keith Fullerton Whitman (aka Hrvatski) and Nudge, as well as a double-CD reissue of Charalambides' 1992 debut cassette, Our Bed Is Green. Also, catch up with Out Hud on the West Coast this month.
