Manifesto: “We are about finding new music, providing an opportunity for it to be heard and working with artists to have their vision represented when the record is promoted,” Hughes says. “We take chances with our releases and only work with music that we are 100 percent behind. We look for music that is raw yet skillfully produced and, above all, timeless.”
A&R Philosophy: “We look for artists who are compatible with our sound: artists who are pushing music in a new direction yet have the discipline to bring structure to their work,” Hughes says. “For Hefty, demos are the way that we'll most likely find that ‘next sound’ or artist. The way we see it, the future of music is still in a bedroom or a basement somewhere. If that means listening to hundreds of CDs before we hear ‘the one,’ that's hardly a sacrifice.”
Upcoming: Telefon Tel Aviv will tour across the United States. and overseas to support Map of What Is Effortless, and Slicker will release We All Have a Plan in April.
