Style: Forward-thinking electronic music, from abstract IDM to electro and techno
Established: In 1999, by Sam Valenti IV in his dorm room at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor
Artists: Matthew Dear, Dykehouse, Kill Memory Crash, Kiln, Charles Manier, Midwest Product, Tadd Mullinix (aka Dabrye, James Cotton), Osborne, Output Message
Essential Listening: Dabrye, One/Three (2002); Various Artists, Disco Nouveau: Tangent 2002 (2002); Various Artists, Idol Tryouts (2003)
Manifesto: Ghostly International celebrates diversity of style rather one distinct genre. Devoted to releases of timeless quality, the label also dedicates itself to a strong visual presence. Although it maintains a focus on abstracted pop, Ghostly also started a sublabel, Spectral Sound, in 2000 to showcase the dancefloor work of artists such as Matthew Dear, James Cotton and Osborne. Overall, the label's focus is on the humanistic elements of electronics, not the machines themselves.
A&R Philosophy: Ghostly International is open-minded to thoughtful, quality electronic music and accepts demos, though it cannot guarantee feedback.
Upcoming: New releases from Dykehouse, Midwest Product and Dabrye, as well as Matthew Dear's first Spectral release. Ghostly tours are ongoing; check the Ghostly Website for updates.
