Style: “It encompasses house and progressive house, and we touch on bits of techno and breaks,” says label chief Chris Fortier. “We're not focused on one sound ourselves, and I like to think that it's not strictly one sound. We look for good, solid records, no matter what umbrella they fall under. We try to do everything.”
Established: In 1994 in Orlando, Fla., by Fortier
Artists: Steve Porter, Fade, Chris Fortier, Neil Kolo, Morris & Shylock, Descent
Essential Listening: Fade, “For All the People & All I Got” (1995), “Separation” (1995); Steve Porter, “Sensor” (2000), “Nordica” (2003)
Manifesto: “I just want to put out interesting records,” Fortier says. “A lot of labels release one record a month, and it's the same record every month. And that's not what I want to do. I just look for something slightly different than we've done before.
“I guess over the last three years or so, when I've really gotten more serious about the label, most of the tracks that we've done are all by kids from America. And I'd say that most of the stuff that we have done has usually been the producers' first tracks they've ever done. So I get a lot of satisfaction from being involved in their growth process.”
A&R Philosophy: “I just want to look for something slightly different or that has an original sound,” Fortier continues. “It's not house, progressive house or whatever by numbers. It's music that somebody's put some emotion, some vested feelings inside.”
Upcoming: Tracks from Expressed Soul (“I'm Waiting”), Motive (“A.B.E.”), Steve Porter and Chris Reavey (“Oyster Crackers”) and Woven (“Solder Me”), as well as the Fade Records Presents Audio Tour compilation
