Feb 1, 2006 12:00 PM
Style: House
Established: In 1992 by David Piccionni in London.
Artists: “A couple years back, Azuli split into Azuli Silver and Azuli Black to reflect the diversification of house music, Silver being more soulfully edged, while Black caters to tougher electronic grooves,” says Azuli promotions and events coordinator Sean Brosnan. “Black has seen productions and remixes from Chicken Lips, Steve Bug, Lee Coombs and Freaks, and Silver has had Sessomatto (aka Joey Negro), Deux, Rasmus Faber and Jeremy Sylvester. Now up to 213 releases and counting!”
Essential Listening: Deux, “Sun Rising Up” (200th release); Chicken Lips, “He Not In”; David Morales, “Needin' You”; Choice and LateNightTales compilations series.
Manifesto: “Great music that gets out there,” Brosnan says.
A&R Philosophy: “We're always interested in demos,” Brosnan says. “Much of the Azuli records are undiscovered gems from around the world that don't always have the platform until they get released on the label.
”Upcoming: “The next Choice comp is from Danny Howells, out in February, and Scottish indie kids Belle & Sebastian tackle the next LateNightTales,” Brosnan says. “Plus, look out for Azuli events happening worldwide throughout 2006.”
