THEY'RE BAAA-AAACK!

What seems now like a long time ago and was in fact at the turn of the century, a company called Electrix (www.electrixpro.com) revolutionized the hardware effects market by cranking out units made specifically for DJs and producers/performers of electronic music. Classics such as the FilterFactory, WarpFactory vocoder and MoFX modulation effect box filled the racks on the stage rigs and studios of many of the most influential names in the dance world, including Richie Hawtin, the Chemical Brothers and many more.

Back in aught one (that's 2001 for you whippersnappers), Electrix released its final piece, the 4-track loop recorder the Repeater, which became a cult-classic for loop-based producers. Now, new owner SBD Music, Inc. has resurrected Electrix with a software version of the Repeater called VirtualRepeater, to debut this month at London's Plasa show. The PC/Mac program will expand on the Repeater's old interface with an intuitive, no-menu GUI that provides interactive visual feedback and accepts VST plug-ins. VirtualRepeater will be only the first chapter in Electrix's comeback; the company plans to release 2.0 versions of the FilterFactory, WarpFactory, MoFX and more throughout 2008.
