TC ELECTRONIC EQ STATION 8
LIVE EQ SYSTEM
With the goal of inventing the most comprehensive all-digital EQ system for live sound, TC Electronic came up with the EQ Station 8 (price TBA) for when only the best will do. The 2U rackmount Station 8 uses balanced XLR connectors for its eight analog channels of processing. Each channel is treated to simultaneous 6-band parametric EQ, 29-band graphic EQ, 3-band dynamic EQ, delay and limiting, and all effects use 48-bit internal processing to deliver the best results that TC Electronic can offer based on its long legacy of top-notch processing. The analog EQ modeling — particularly graphic EQ — represents the focus of the EQ Station 8. Three different EQ-filter construction types are available: cascaded filters, parallel filters and a mix of cascaded and parallel filters. Live engineers require instant access to all major control functions, so TC Electronic built the EQ Station 8 to provide that within an intuitive interface. PC and Mac editing software ships with the Station 8, or it can also be used in tandem with the TC Electronic MotoFader-64 remote, which gives a total overview of the graphic EQ settings and much more. An Ethernet port connects the unit to a computer, and the Station 8 also has MIDI I/O.

DRAWMER SP2120
SPEAKER PROTECTOR
The expression “If it's too loud, you're too old” flies out the window when you're in charge of a venue because excessive volume can damage valuable equipment or even place you in violation of local noise ordinances. With Drawmer's SP2120 Speaker Protector ($849), only holders of the 1U processor's key will be able to exceed a set volume level. Four XLR connectors sit in the back panel: L/R input and output. Installers should put the SP2120 in the signal path immediately prior to amplification. They then “unlock” the unit using the key and the front-panel lock. Two controls serve to calibrate the 16-LED left and right level meters and to set the absolute volume limit for the sound system. If the SP2120 receives a signal exceeding that limit, it will maintain the specified volume limit without degrading the sound quality. Incorporating “multiple time constant” circuitry and automatic gain control, the SP2120 can prevent damage to speaker cones, electronics and amplifiers that results from excessive levels.

TRIDENT AUDIO M-101
LARGE-DIAPHRAGM MIC
In keeping with the company's namesake of a three-prong spear, the Trident Audio M-101 ($495) large-diaphragm microphone has three switchable patterns: figure-8, omni and hypercardioid, with a -20dB pad and low-frequency rolloff. Trident Audio is John Oram's other company along with Oram Pro, and Oram designed the M-101's electronics. The mic is manufactured at the Trident factory in England and calibrated for optimum, repeatable quality. The M-101 is packed in a flight case that includes a shockmount holder and accessories.
