LEXICON MPX 550

DUAL-CHANNEL PROCESSOR

Suited to most small- and medium-size clubs, as well as touring rigs, the Lexicon MPX 550 ($649) is a high-quality, 24-bit, true-stereo (or dual-mono) processor. The unit boasts compression, multiple reverb programs, tremolo, rotary emulations, chorus, flange, pitch, detune, 5.5 seconds of delay and echo effects. Dual program configurations are available, combining compression with two independent effects with multiple routing configurations. Special features include volume-matching compression, a factory front-of-house bank, tempo-matched delays and MIDI implementation. All of the internal processing, as well as A/D and D/A conversion, is 24-bit. Rear-panel connections include balanced XLR and ¼-inch I/Os, S/PDIF, MIDI I/O and a footswtich control.

SHURE PSM 200

PERSONAL MONITOR SYSTEM

The Shure PSM 200 ($468, wired; $798, wireless) finally makes personal monitoring a reality for almost anyone. The system is based on the P2R Hybrid Receiver, which works as both a stand-alone wired receiver (for fixed positions) or as a belt-pack receiver when used with the P2T TransMixer. The P2R includes a single ¼-inch line-level input; a volume control; a built-in limiter; and LED indicators for power, RF (radio frequency) signal strength, frequency, limiter and battery level. For wireless applications, the P2T offers two ¼-inch/XLR combination inputs, level controls, a 300-foot range and more. The system wouldn't be complete without the E2 Earphones (also available separately for $99), which feature interchangeable plastic flex and foam sleeves for maximum isolation.

BBE SOUND 482i, 882i

SONIC MAXIMIZERS

BBE Sound continues to burrow deeper into its audio-gear niche with the release of two new 1U rackmount processors, the 482i ($349.99) and 882i ($599.99) Sonic Maximizers. Both units are constructed to withstand the rigors of touring, as well as demanding live-sound applications. Designed for audio requiring low noise and high headroom, they provide two channels of processing and can be used for stereo signals or two separate mono signals with two sets of Lo Contour and Process knobs on the front panel. The 882i supplies balanced I/O with XLR and TRS pairs while the 482i furnishes unbalanced stereo I/O via RCA and ¼-inch connections. The company has also updated its Sonic Maximizer plug-in ($129.99), which now supports both Mac and PC VST platforms, as well as DirectX. Its graphics are based on the new hardware units, and the plug-in accommodates unlimited user-defined presets, real-time preset changes and MIDI.
