Dedicated crew can't break from the past
The title of single "Bulldozin'" is a good signpost for the level of subtlety and nuance this Brooklyn duo offer with their hard breaks and jungle beats. Boasting of their admiration of the Sherman Filter Bank and the Virus TI, their rich synths grind and dig like metal guitars, but all too often those riled-up sounds are set atop pounding drum loops with nowhere particular to go. Hip-hop beats like "BK United" are noisy and aggro while the drum 'n' bass cuts like "Serious Delirium" that make up most of the disc come directly descended from the buzz-saw jump up of the late '90s.—Noah Levine [2 out of 5 stars]
