CD Review: Momu, Momentum (Looq)

Opaque vocals prove costly
JD Moyer and Mark Musselman peddle electro-pop and fluttering downtempo as Momu. Servings of the former tire quickly on Momentum, however, as they sink with superfluous vocoder and safe, familiar developments. Momu's able guest vocalist Alysoun Quinby finishes unscathed by the effects overage, and the nuances padding her contributions to "Dreamy Days" and "Window" are tasteful—but the Speak & Spell vocal fixings for "Goin' Off Tonight," as well as the robo-choruses and cowbells on "Truckin,'" wear off faster than discount deodorant. They don't offend as easily, but that's part of the problem.—Dominic Umile [2.5 out of 5 stars]
