Show us something new
Well, they've still got nerve, we'll give 'em that. But after a dozen years in the biz, you'd think the Dandys would want to better use their skills. This is just more of the same: smug college-party songs, blemished by eye-rollingly brash lyrics that try too hard. The musicianship is solid and the melodies are catchy, especially on "Mis Amigos," the countrified "The Legend of the Last of the Outlaw Truckers AKA the Ballad of Sheriff Shorty" and the boisterous "Love Song" (with Mark Knopfler), but nothing's really compelling; on repeated listens, it falls flat. A little less insolence and a little more depth next time might do the band good.—Kristi Kates [2 out of 5 stars]
