ODD NOSDAM, Pretty Swell Explode (Anticon.)
Jul 30, 2008 1:21 PM
Redeeming scattered efforts sounds
Arranging sampled bits is what Odd Nosdam does, so gathering B-sides, remixes and musical debris is a natural extension of the Anticon. ringleader’s art. That explains why his two-disc collection of strangely accordant downtempo and ambient oddities sounds so cohesive despite coming from every corner of his portfolio. The crunch and scrape in his cut and paste saturates, and redesigns of Serena Maneesh and Black Moth Super Rainbow are more his than theirs. On those and originals "Untitled Three" and "Hollow Me," Nosdam lives up to the disc's three-word title.—Noah Levine [4 out of 5 stars]
