A-Trak, Running Man: Nike Original Run (Nike/iTunes)

One continuous trak
A Nike-sponsored platform is an odd place for a debut, particularly from turntablist battle champ and Kanye West touring DJ/collaborator A-Trak. The seamless 43-minute-long Running Man: Nike Original Run skips the scratch-built routines that earned A-Trak his titles and glowing accolades (beginning in his early teens) and drives straight to the dancefloor.
Not unlike the hard grooves that power the DJ's Dirty South Dance mixtape, A-Trak's Running Man—purposefully directed at the exercise-conscious—packs dense electronic textures that shift from mid-tempo synth swells to gritty, prodding blurts. The first noticeable slump into deep, clapping '80s electro (about 15 minutes in) is precipitated by a few minutes of the quirky array of ripples that backed A-Trak's remix of Simian Mobile Disco's "Hustler" in 2007. It won't exactly leave you damp with perspiration, but Running Man glistens nonetheless.—Dominic Umile [3.5 out of 5 stars]
