TC ELECTRONIC SHIPS KONNEKT 8 & POWERCORE EXPRESS PCI-E

Nov 7, 2006 7:06 PM

TC Electronic announced that its audio interface Konnekt 8 ($375 MSRP) is now shipping. Konnekt 8 features two Impact mic preamps, which are switchable to dedicated Hi-Z guitar inputs or balanced line inputs; two analog-controlled balanced outputs; two aux line in to monitor external devices; two coaxial S/PDIF (stereo) I/O; sample-accurate MIDI and FireWire connectivity. The design allows the unit to be used as a stand-alone mixer with the front-panel light-ring providing easy access, instant control and visual feedback of important mix parameters. Konnekt 8 includes Cubase LE to allow users to start recording right out of the box.

Konnekt 8 has TC NEAR (Network Expandable Audio Recording), which makes it possible to stack as many as four Konnekts together to obtain a massive amount of I/O. Multiple devices be connected to the computer, and two musicians each with a networked Konnekt 8 can direct monitor each other in real time. Users working with active monitors will appreciate the analog volume control that ensures an extremely low noise floor. Other monitoring options include two headphone outputs, one with a speaker-muting function that mutes the speaker automatically when the headphone jack is plugged in.

The Konnekt 8 audio interface is based on the new DICE II digital interface chip from TC Applied Technologies. DICE II provides a stable clock rate, crucial to digital sound quality, and it ensures digital-signal integrity using patent-pending Jitter Elimination Technology (JET). Konnekt 8 also includes low-latency drivers for Mac OS X (including the new Intel-based Macs), Windows XP and all audio applications that support WDM, ASIO and Core Audio drivers.

TC Electronic also announced the final release and shipping of the new PowerCore Express, the PCIe version of PowerCore. PowerCore Express ($1,495 MSRP) is designed for the new fast PCIe-equipped PCs and Macs and allows users of those systems access to the array of PowerCore plug-ins from TC Electronic and other developers such as Sony Oxford, Novation, Access and Noveltech. This includes the recently announced System 6000 reverb/dynamics tools and harmony effects from TC-Helicon.

PowerCore Express ships with the same 14 plug-ins as PowerCore PCI mkII, including two types of reverb, multiple compressors, chorus/delay, parametric EQ, a synth and a guitar-amp simulator. TC Electronic will continue to offer the existing PowerCore PCI mkII and PowerCore Unplugged versions, ensuring the utmost compatibility with all PCI, PCI-X and PCI Express-equipped computers.

PowerCore is the open-platform DSP engine for professional signal processing for Mac and PC. Its serious processing power seamlessly integrates with any VST- or AU-host application. Optional plug-ins are available from TC and a growing number of third-party developers. The PowerCore platform consists of PowerCore PCI mkII, PowerCore Unplugged, PowerCore PCI Express, PowerCore Compact and PowerCore FireWire.
