SINGULAR VISION

With the influx of DVDs rushing to the market these days, it's easy to become a little wary as new titles — poised to capitalize on those fleeting childhood memories — come out: They're never as good as you remember them. They usually don't even qualify as neat. (You already learned that lesson with the G.I. Joe and Wonder Woman box sets, didn't you?) Fortunately, the ever-cool Warp Records has stepped up with a bit of DVD refreshment, Warp Vision (The Videos 1989 — 1994). A definite treat for any Warp fan, the DVD packs in 32 videos from the label's innovative catalog. Aside from a few familiar entries (including the nightmare-inducing “Come to Daddy” and “Windowlicker” Aphex Twin videos directed by Chris Cunningham), most of these vids have never seen commercial release. And in addition to checking out the directorial skills of smarmy Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker (who knew?), you can finally get a visual reference point for bands like Seefeel, Broadcast, Plaid, LFO and many more.
