THAT MAGIC MOMENT

If ever there were a question to be asked of any artist working in the oft-thankless world of independent music that could yield a thousand different responses, that question would undoubtedly be, “What inspired you to do this?” Thrill Jockey Records founder Bettina Richards thought that it was such a profound inquiry that she made it the concept behind a full-length DVD, Looking for a Thrill: An Anthology of Inspiration. Teaming up with director Braden King and editor Ian Williams, Richards set out to ask this one simple question of as many different musicians as possible.
Looking for a Thrill includes interviews with artists as diverse as Björk, Vic Chesnutt, Dodo Nkishi (Mouse on Mars), John Parish, Jon Spencer and dozens of others. The DVD comprises single-take interviews and delves into the motivations behind forming a band, recording an album, starting a label and more. All of the proceeds from the project will be donated to Greenpeace. For more information, check out www.thrilljockey.com.
