GETTIN' HOT IN THE HOTEL

As if you expected anything less, the Remix Hotel Miami brought some serious heat to Southern Florida for the fourth year in a row March 24-26. Infiltrating the Eden Roc Resort & Spa, the Remix Hotel, presented by Apple, tried its hand at Miami Beach rather than South Beach this year — and with more than 4,500 registrants, it's safe to say that the experiment worked. (Maybe the hourly Apple iPod Shuffle giveaways helped a little bit, too.)
Returning to Miami were several top manufacturers — including Digidesign, Mackie, Vestax and Pioneer — as well as the Guitar Center Retail Arena. (For a full list of Remix Hotel Technology Partners, visit http://remixhotel.com/miami/partners.) And the Q&A sessions started in New York and San Francisco made their debut in Miami with informative, engaging conversations with STS9, Adam F, Murk, Junkie XL, Photek, Jazzy Jay and Ken Jordan of the Crystal Method. New this year was the URB Village at the Remix Hotel, made possible through a partnership with Remix and URB magazines, which sponsored outdoor performances from the likes of Boom Bip, Diplo, Z-Trip and Esthero.
Plenty of action was happening inside at the Eden Roc, though, with nonstop live demos and product talk. Stanton brought in Roni Size, DJ Rap and Richard “Humpty” Vission, to name a few, for live demos, and Digidesign and M-Audio hosted Bad Boy Bill, DXT, Richard Devine and others. And on Saturday, The Roots' ?uestlove (pick and all) stopped by the Serato room to take a peek at the ever-popular Rane/Serato ScratchLive. Stay tuned to find out who shows up at the Remix Hotel NYC in June.
