CD REVIEW: THE FAINT, WET FROM BIRTH
Sep 8, 2004 12:00 PM, Erin Hutton
These five Omaha, Neb., boys have gotten a bit more adventurous on their fourth outing, letting guitars and bass take more of a dominant role and welcoming strings into the fold. The crunchy synths remain omnipresent, but they’re designed more to sit back in the mix rather than direct it. So what was once a sexed-up basement dance party has given way to a slightly more cerebral multigenre groove shop, with the electro-glam “Erection,” the robo-punk “Drop Kick the Punks” and the dub-tinged “Phone Call.” But don’t think this won’t make you move, and don’t forget the black eyeliner.
