Beastie Boys help iTunes ring in its first anniversary with the worldwide digital release of their career-spanning catalogue April 27. The release of the catalog will be followed a day later by the iTunes premiere of "Ch-Check It Out," the first single from the hotly anticipated To The 5 Boroughs, to be released this summer on Capitol Records.
Spanning seven albums and over 122 tracks, this will mark the first official digital release of Beastie Boys classics Paul's Boutique (hailed by Rolling Stone as one of "The Greatest Albums Ever Made" and by Blender as one of "The 100 Greatest American Albums of All Time"), Hello Nasty (a two-time Grammy winner), Check Your Head, Ill Communication, the Sounds Of Science anthology, Some Old Bullshit, The In Sound From Way Out, and 21 exclusive non-LP tracks mixes.
A day later, Beastie Boys' blockbuster new single "Ch-Check It Out" will premiere on iTunes, giving fans an exclusive taste of the first new Beastie Boys album in six years. "Ch-Check It Out" is classic Beastie Boys: deft, hyperactive wordplay from the unmistakable voices of Adrock, MCA and Mike D, a rousing shout-along chorus, and pop cultural references spanning from Star Trek to Lorne Greene to Miss Piggy and beyond.
Beastie Boys have long been at the forefront of the nexus of music and new technology: In 1995, their Quadrophonic Joystick tour featured giveaways of early web browsing software and arcade videogame shells outfitted to house internet interfaces. In 1998, the band previewed the release of its "Intergalactic" single by gradually making the song available in weekly snippets and later became the first major act to make its live shows freely available for download.
