April 20-August 20: Red Bull Big Tune Producers Battle

Dozens of producers will have the opportunity to submit their own original pieces of music for a chance to compete in a unique, head-to-head battle of the beats called Red Bull Big Tune. Started in Seattle in 2005 as a partnership between event producers Vitamin D and Jonathan Moore, Big Tune was created as a way to showcase the musical talents of emerging and established producers in a fresh and forward thinking way. The spirit of the Jamaican Reggae/Dancehall culture, where battles such as this occurred nightly and were commonly referred to as “clashes,” is the inspiration behind Big Tune.

Beginning on April 25 at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco and continuing on throughout the summer and early fall, Red Bull Big Tune will hit four other key venues in cities across the U.S., including Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago, and Seattle, before circling back to Los Angels for the Big Tune national final on October 18, 2007.

During each stop, 10-12 feature producers will be chosen from the pool of applicants to come to the select Big Tune venue and “clash” head-to-head through rounds of single elimination competition. What makes Big Tune truly unique is the integral role the crowd plays in determining who advances and who goes home. Only the producers that elicit the largest response from the audience will make it to the next round. Participants will need to save the best beats for last as they advance to the final clash where the two best producers from the night will go head-to-head. The last person standing will be the one with The Big Tune. The top two producers from each of the 5 stops plus two wild cards will be flown to Los Angeles on October 18th to compete in the Red Bull Big Tune national final and receive the ultimate bragging rights.
