Participants will remix and mash-up tracks from Kanye West, M.I.A., David Byrne, Tom Waits, Santigold, George Clinton and DJ AM, among others, to create a new N.A.S.A.-inspired song. The winner will be featured on N.A.S.A.'s forthcoming remix album and will receive $1,000.
Submissions will be accepted until October 23, 2009; the winner will be announced on October 31.
N.A.S.A., which stands for North America South America, is an international collaboration between music aficionados Squeak E. Clean and DJ Zegon, along with their friends, family and musical heroes. The Spirit of Apollo combines the sounds of Brazillian funk with soul, reggae, indie rock, old-school hip-hop and more. Squeak E. Clean, from New York, and DJ Zegon, from Brazil, have gathered a group of musicians to realize their vision.
