MC Abdominal Among Standouts at Canadian Music Week

Mar 11, 2008 5:10 PM

CMW—better known as Canadian Music Week—just wrapped up its 26th-year event in Toronto, with MC Abdominal, otherwise known as Andy Bernstein, making one of the biggest impressions of the seven-day event. Bernstein's old-school hip-hop style deals with subjects ranging from politics to his love of fast food, influenced by the likes of De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest; his next goal is to stray from the traditional producer-DJ format and introduce some live musicians into his set as well.

Along with MC Abdominal, other musicians noted during CMW included CBC Galaxie Rising Star Jenn Grant, rockers Karkwa, Ottawa band The Acorn and established artists Stars and Joel Plaskett Emergency. The event features more than 500 showcasing bands each year at over 40 live music venues in downtown Toronto.
