Make Your Mac or PC Into a Drum Machine With iDrum

Mar 31, 2008 11:46 PM

iZotope has just released iDrum 1.6, a Windows XP/Vista compatible version of its popular iDrum virtual drum-machine software.

iDrum turns a Mac or PC into a virtual drum machine, where the user can build rhythmic patterns with a built-in step sequencer and hundreds of included sounds and patterns covering a wide range of musical styles. iDrum can utilize users' customized samples or those from professionally produced libraries. Beats in iDrum can be created from its internal step sequencer or by playing a MIDI controller, electronic drum kit or QWERTY keyboard. iDrum is said to blend the characteristics of vintage drum machines with the versatility of a software instrument.

iDrum runs as both a stand-alone native OS X and Windows application and as a plug-in for Pro Tools, GarageBand, Logic, Ableton Live, Sonar, Cubase and more. This means users can use iDrum to create beats right within their favorite music software environments. It comes with hundreds of professional drum samples arranged in nearly 200 files, each with its own preset patterns; parts, samples and kits can be mixed and matched to create virtually endless possibilities. Users can also import their own WAV and AIFF files to build custom kits.

iZotope iDrum is now available for at retail stores or at www.izotope.com for $69.99 (a 10-day, fully functional trial version is also available via the Website); customers who already own iDrum's boxed version can download the new PC-compatible version from iZotope's Website for no additional charge.
