Just as happy running on a
Linux machine as on Mac OS X, the DAW newcomer Ardour is ready for a larger
stage. Ardour 2.0 is a complete DAW for Mac OS X and Linux that is made
available in source code for developers and comes with prebuilt binaries for
Linux versions. Designed as a complete audio-production environment, version
2.0 features several hundred large and small upgrades. Advancements include an
updated and improved GUI, destructive recording/dubbing capabilities, Undo/Redo
even after program restart, improved stability for VST plug-ins and modular
support for hardware control surfaces (such as Mackie Control or Frontier
Design TranzPort). The makers expect version 2.1 to be coming soon. With no
up-front cost, Ardour is a DAW-of-the-people; however, the administrators do
request donations from satisfied users, which is, of course, only fair.
