DJ LIFE RAFT?
The latest Dutch import since Marco V is a curious DJ tool called the Freefloat. Essentially an inflatable turntable cushion, the Freefloat acts as a barrier between the deck and the booth or setup table, thus improving skip resistance and eradicating rumble. The company claims that turntables experience 10 to 20 times fewer shocks, which allows DJs to play at a higher volume while retaining the full frequency range. A pair of Freefloatz goes for approximately $29 at www.freefloat.net.
WEBSITE OF THE MONTH
If witnessing the antics of an elementary-schoolboy version of Eminem sounds intriguing, you should take a gander at www.angrynakedpat.com/network/icf/index.php. The person in question is child actor — and budding rapper — Andy Milonakis, a regular on Jimmy Kimmel Live. His track “Crispy New Freestyle” is particularly amusing and worthy of a download. Be warned: Just like Slim Shady himself, Milonakis doesn't hold back on the four-letter words.
THE DRUGS MIGHT WORK
Another drugs 'n' dance movie is on the horizon, and this one is adapted from the short story “The Undefeated” in the Irvine Welsh book Ecstasy. The casting for the film (also titled Ecstasy) isn't complete, but video director Rob Heydon, whose visuals have been featured in Richie Hawtin and John Digweed's live shows, serves as director and co-screenwriter (with Benjamin Tucker). The romantic comedy — about a drug dealer who falls in love with a straight-living girl — will be set in Spain, Scotland, Germany and The Netherlands.
