Ableton Live 6 may be painless to get started with, but there is a ton of stuff going on under the hood. The 4-hour Ableton Live 6 CSi Master DVD-ROM ($49.99; www.courseptr.com) packs a ton of learning into its screen-capture movie tutorials. It's for the intermediate user who wants to master Live 6's potential for composing, editing, mixing, remixing and DJing music. The Flash Player interface lets you skip around the nearly 50 separate tutorials, jump to chapter markers within those tutorials and follow along in Live 6.
DO IT RIGHT
CD sales are down 20 percent from last year. As the music industry continues to morph and record labels take the lion's share of the profits from their bands, artists need all the help they can get to survive. Check out the DVD from Disc Makers and Taxi, Achieving Success With Your Music. Tony van Veen, president of Disc Makers, and Michael Laskow, CEO of A&R company Taxi, came together for a seminar to help you make the right moves in the business. Achieving may have a boring conference-room visual, but you'll pick up some good dos and don'ts.
TOOLIN' AROUND TOWN
Nobody beats the Biz in Scion's debut documentary series, Stomping Grounds. The series follows celebrities as they drive around in a Scion to visit their old neighborhoods and former hangouts, including sneaker shops, nightclubs, arcades and barbershops. In this first installment, we follow the self-proclaimed hip-hop pope, the diabolical Biz Markie, as he revisits Long Island and some of the other New York boroughs where he made a name for himself. Scion is submitting the short to U.S. film festivals and is pursuing licensing opportunities for a potential series. Check it out at www.scion.com/broadband.
