QUICK HITS

Dec 1, 2005 12:00 PM

LOVE FROM GERMANY

Although tech-house producer and DJ Steve Bug founded Poker Flat less than a decade ago, in 1998, the label has a large enough catalog for a hefty 80-track-plus box set, Poker Flat Volume 1-4 (2005). The six-CD collection includes tracks by Märtini Brös, Swayzak, Phonique, John Tejada, Detroit Grand Pubahs, Bug and many more. To top it off, the various compilations are also mixed by Tejada, Martin Landsky and Jeff Samuel. So now you can catch up with what's been happening in Hamburg.

WEBSITE OF THE MONTH

If you're a fan of Gilles Peterson's Worldwide BBC Radio 1 show but not so keen on the U.S.-UK time difference, you can now listen to the show whenever you want courtesy of the Giant Step Jukebox at www.giantstep.net. Giant Step has secured the exclusive U.S. distribution of the two-hour weekly program, which has been broadcasting an eclectic mix of new music for a decade. The show will be updated each Monday — just in time for that sleepy start of the work week.

EVEN MORE POWER!

Propellerhead Reason is one of those rare pieces of software that everyone seems to have. If you're one of the countless tweakers who wrench on the program daily, Reason 3 Power! by Matt Piper and Michael Prager is for you. Packed with detailed explanations and tutorials, the book offers something for everyone, from the newbie to the professional musician. Reason 3 may appear simple, but a lot is going on under that UI.
