HAVE YOUR CAKEWALK
If you're dying to get a guided tour of Cakewalk's Project 5 Version 2, you're in luck. The company is launching an expansive tour of music stores throughout the country in which it will be providing hands-on demonstrations of its latest soft-synth workstation. The clinics will also showcase the program's ability to work with numerous industry-standard applications. For an updated list of cities and dates, go to www.cakewalk.com/events/tour.asp.
WEBSITE OF THE MONTH
If you're not in the know, the International Air Scratch Association, www.air-scratch.com, is where it's at. The IASA is the official home for anyone who ever wanted to be a DJ but, as the site says, sucked at scratching. With photos and videos of some of the world's tightest air scratchers, the site also purports to make your dreams come true if you send in your own air-scratching footage. You can even get an official IASA Membership ID. Awesome.
PRODUCER'S PAYOFF
Follow producer Disco D as he makes sexy tracks and works the biz on his Disco DVD: Episode One (Disco D Productions, 2005). You get to see artists recording in D's vocal booth and D and his collaborators making plans. It's an informal, fly-on-the-wall documentary, but it's fun to see the lovable D as he builds his business and makes it big producing a track (“Ski Mask Way”) for 50 Cent's The Massacre. For more info, go to www.discod.com.
