MURK & MURK CLASSICS

Apr 1, 2005 12:00 PM

Style: House

Established: In 1991 by Oscar Gaetan and Ralph Falcon in Miami. In March 2005, the duo relaunched the label, adding the Murk Classics imprint, with Ben Turner and Jason Gaetan.

Artists: Murk is the vehicle for Gaetan and Falcon's work as Murk and as Coral Way Chiefs, Deep South, Funky Green Dogs, Interceptor, Intruder, Liberty City and Murk Boys. Artists such as Deep Dish, Sander Kleinenberg and Steve Lawler will appear on Murk Classics with remixes of classic Murk tunes.

Essential Listening: Coral Way Chiefs, “Release Myself” (1992; Deep Dish remix out soon on Murk Classics); Funky Green Dogs, “Reach for Me” (1992; remixes by Steve Lawler, Desyn Masiello, and Peter Bailey and Richie Santana to be released on Murk Classics); Liberty City, “If You Really Love Someone” (1994; Sander Kleinenberg remix upcoming from Murk Classics)

Manifesto: The idea behind Murk's relaunch is to re-establish what was once one of the most solid outlets of underground house music while rereleasing the label's classics with remixes by some of today's biggest artists and putting out new music by Gaetan and Falcon. Murk's mission is to provide consistent, quality music for the masses.

A&R Philosophy: Although the current Murk roster comprises only Gaetan and Falcon, the duo is in talks to expand Murk to include a sister label, which will feature additional artists. Demos are always welcome.

Upcoming: Look out for Funky Green Dogs' “Reach for Me” remix package.
