IN MEMORIAM

Dec 1, 2001 12:00 PM, Simona Rabinovitch

Among the thousands lost in the World Trade Center on September 11 was DJ Samsson, aka Joshua Birnbaum. The 23-year-old Kingsize USA DJ and producer was working for a top brokerage firm whose offices were located in the WTC.

“I find it hard to talk about right now because losing one of my DJs is like losing a son,” says Matt Hanrahan of Kingsize. “He had just graduated from Columbia and was hired by Cantor Fitzgerald. His plan was to put money into his studio and then pull out after a few years.”

DJ Samsson's eclectic mixing style of deep trance and progressive house earned him gigs alongside the likes of Christopher Lawrence and Sandra Collins. He released several original tracks and a mix CD, Breaking Ground.

Kingsize plans to give Samsson's mix CD to the DJ's fans and has dedicated all of its weekly events to his memory.
