HELLO, HOLLYWOOD!

For the first time in Remix Hotel's four-year history, the event landed in Hollywood at the Musicians Institute, right down the block from the famous Mann's Chinese Theater. Clinics and discussions courtesy of RHLA's various Technology Partners — including Digidesign, M-Audio, Pioneer, Stanton, Akai, Edirol, Serato, Rane, Mackie, Novation, Focusrite, Cakewalk, Propellerhead, Allen & Heath, Vestax, Numark, Access, Celemony and more — helped bring in more than 3,000 attendees. And as part of the event, people got to learn about applications and gear from the likes of Carmen Rizzo, DJ AM, Mocean Worker, Arabian Prince (NWA) and Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, Air).
In the auditorium, attendees were treated to Sonicbids performances and a slew of panels put on by Public Enemy founder and producer Hank Shocklee and his team at Shocklee Entertainment. Topics included music for film, record and radio production, engineering in the digital age and breaking new ground in VJing and DJing. Panelists included Dan the Automator; DXT; The Angel; music supervisors for movies and TV shows such as Hustle & Flow and CSI; music producers of artists including Snoop Dogg and Christina Aguilera; engineers for the likes of Eminem, 50 Cent, Gwen Stefani and Kanye West; composers for films such as Office Space and The Ring; and VJs who have worked with Madonna and Paul Oakenfold. If anything, there were so many people to learn from at RHLA that all of the advice and shared studio tips bordered on sensory overload. What's more, panel moderator and film composer Jeff Rona gave the audience food for thought when he said that “it's early days” for advancements in technology. What's next? Will the hover car finally get invented?
