DVD DELUGE

Jul 1, 2006 12:00 PM, Kylee Swenson

The most hilarious but truly wrong DVD to come through the Remix mailroom this month is Jigga Jones (Fall Thru, 2006), a “documentary” where you'll “learn to lie, cheat and steal from a true gangsta.” Jigga Jones, who apparently has an IQ of 178, has returned to the streets after 12 years in jail to continue his nonstop crime spree. While downing bottle after bottle of Olde English “800,” Jones gives such advice as how to break into a rental-car trunk or make a weapon for $1.98. The dialog is sometimes obscured by horrible sound (best to turn the bass down), but through the boominess, you can hear Jones say ridiculous things like, “One thing you gotta like about white people is that when they go shopping, they don't like to lock their shit up.”

Also coming from Fall Thru are such gems as Wildest Sideshows Uncensored and Hardcore Raw & Uncut, with the latter focusing on violent street fights. But when blood enters the picture, Remix gets nauseous, so it's time to change the subject to noncriminal thoughts, like rainbows and puppies — or at least indie-rock music. To that end, check out Sub Pop's Acquired Taste (2006). It features rad rock/electronic videos you won't see on MTV, including those from the Postal Service, The Shins, Hot Hot Heat, the Album Leaf, Helio Sequence and more.

And coming back full-circle to superhigh-IQ rappers, Del The Funky Homosapien brings you The 11th Hour DVD (Hiero Imperium, 2006). Not many rapper/producers are obsessed about learning music theory, as well as writing superintelligent rhymes. On the DVD, you'll witness real-life confessions from Del, live performances, messy bedroom recording sessions, and you'll even meet Del's mom! Look out for Del's next solo album at the end of the 2006.
