A DRIVING PRODUCTION

PlayStation2 has finally created a game to sharpen your remixing skills. Amplitude, released in March 2003, is a sequel to Sony PlayStation's 2001 game FreQuency. Amplitude features more than 25 levels of play and a new game mode called Duel, which allows two players to compete. And with a Network Adapter, four people can go head-to-head in online play mode.
Similar to racing games, each player drives a pod along colored lanes representing different parts of a song. Bumps in the road alert you to opportunities to mix in new sounds to a song until you've completed a whole track. Without going into the complexities of the game, the more tracks you finish, the further you get.
Amplitude features a broader scope of artists than FreQuency, which might scare those electronic producers afraid of a little guitar crunch, but many electronic tracks are still in the playlist. House mixes of David Bowie, P.O.D. remixed by the Crystal Method, Garbage, Weezer, Run-DMC, Herbie Hancock and Slipknot are some of the artists featured. If you can successfully remix a song by Blink-182 without puking, you win!
