Established: In London by A&R man Simon Dunmore in 1999

Essential Listening: MAW featuring India, “To Be In Love” (1999); Powerhouse featuring Duane Harden, “What You Need” (1999); Soulsearcher, “I Can't Get Enough” (1999); Eddie Amador, “Rise” (2000); ATFC featuring Lisa Millett, “Bad Habit” (2000); Kings of Tomorrow, “Finally” (2001); Roger Sanchez, “Another Chance” (2001); Bob Sinclar, “The Beat Goes On” (2003); Junior Jack, “Da Hype” (2004); Martin Solveig, “Rockin' Music” (2004); Bob Sinclar, “Feel for You” (2006)

Manifesto: “We have a disco philosophy, and disco and house music in its most genuine definition just means people having a good time on a dancefloor on a Saturday night,” Dunmore says. “The music that can make that happen can be pretty varied. Defected put out some pretty obscure underground tracks, as well as some overtly commercial disco-type records and everything in-between. As long as DJs play it and people smile and dance when it's played, it works for us, really.”

A&R Philosophy: “We look for innovative artists that display exceptional production skills and original ideas,” Dunmore says. “We receive many demos daily and listen to every one, although very few make the grade. We carefully develop the artists that we have over time through releases and events.”

Upcoming: Defected in the House Eivissa 2006, mixed by Simon Dunmore; Defected at Pacha Ibiza in London every Tuesday during the summer
