BANDS ON FILM

Mar 1, 2006 12:00 PM, Lori J. Kennedy

You've been to the show. You've stayed up and partied all night. And you've stumbled around for hours on end taking in the sights and sounds. Now get a taste of Coachella without having to sweat your ass off. Coachella, a documentary directed by Drew Thomas, made its nationwide One Night Only Big Screen Concerts premiere in January at select theaters. The two-hour film, which highlights the festival's six-year stint of hip-hop, electronic and indie music coupled with alternative ideas, is a mix of concert footage and interviews with artists and fans at the festival. Watch footage from Coachella's past, including performances from Kool Keith, The Polyphonic Spree, Radiohead, Fischerspooner, Björk, The Chemical Brothers, The Crystal Method, The Pixies, the White Stripes and The Prodigy. (The Prodigy's live version of “Their Law” is superb.) You can also watch Beck and Josh Homme wax poetic on the importance of Coachella and Oasis' Noel Gallagher complain about a variety of things, including the state of music and artists' responsibility in society. To find out where the movie is playing, visit www.coachella.com/movie for a listing of cities, venues and dates.
