Expanding on the success of its line of portable handheld audio recorders, Zoom has announced the new Q3 Handy Video Recorder ($249), a palm-size audio and video collector that ups the ante for capturing your inspired moments and important memories.
Able to capture the same high-resolution audio recordings as Zoom's successful H4n model, the Zoom Q3 adds brilliant 640x480, 30 fps video recording and a bright 2.4-inch LCD (at 320x240 resolution). A pair of AA batteries gets you about two hours of recording time, and the unit is compatible with up to a 32GB SD Card for a long recording time. The unit captures audio at 44.1 kHz/16 bits and 48 kHz/24 bits linear PCM or in MP3 format up to 320 kbps; when recording audio-only, the sample rate can be as high as 96 kHz.
Thanks to the Zoom Q3's cool built-in speaker, you can immediately watch and listen to your footage right from the device. Then, flip out the recessed USB 2.0 connection to link the Q3 to your Mac or Windows computer and transfer the files for use in your favorite editor or for YouTube. You can also watch the footage on an external TV or computer monitor using the NTSC/PAL video connection and included cable. The Q3 has a tripod/mic stand mount on its base, and the package includes a windscreen, a 2GB SD Card and a soft carrying pouch. Pro and amateur musicians, videographers, educators, parents, coaches and journalists alike will be able to put the Zoom Q3 to good use.
