CREST PERFORMANCE CP-6210, CP-6220
DJ MIXER, EXPANDER
Crest Performance (a division of Crest Audio) recently unveiled its new CP-6210 (price TBA) professional program mixer and its companion expander/crossfader, the CP-6220 (price TBA). Incorporating the same high-quality components found in Crest's FOH consoles, the CP-6210 and CP-6220 are perfect for use in both permanent installs and portable applications. The rackmountable CP-6210 sports six channels, all with controls for level, pan and source selection. Each channel's source can be selected between primary input signal (four are switchable phono/line inputs and two are mono microphone/line inputs on balanced XLR connectors) or any of five common stereo aux line inputs. Each of the five aux inputs has a rear-panel gain control, and the two mic inputs include treble and bass EQ controls. The program bus on the main mix has a 4-band EQ for maximum tonal control and sound shaping. The output section includes left, right and summed mono outputs on both balanced XLR connectors and gold-plated RCAs for the house and balanced ¼-inch headphone jacks and RCA connectors for the booth. The CP-6220 expander can be added on with a single link cable. The expander provides a three-frequency bandpass EQ on each input channel for special effects. The smooth 45mm VCA crossfader allows for easy switching among input sources. The crossfader also provides taper control and an A/B reverse switch. The optional CP-6220 is powered by the main CP-6210, eliminating the need for an extra outlet.

NUMARK CDX1
CD PLAYER
At Summer NAMM in Nashville this past July, Numark made a special debut for DJs with the CDX1 ($999) CD player. A turntablist's dream unit, the tabletop CDX1 boasts an ultra-high-torque 12-inch platter (based on Numark's flagship TTX1 turntable) that allows scratching of both CDs and MP3s with the feel of vinyl. The CDX1 comes complete with vinyl and a slipmat for an authentic feel and provides several scratching and looping tools, including auto beat matching and smart looping, which can make perfect loops every time. In addition, the CDX1 sports dual “battle-style” controls; a forward/reverse toggle; and DSP effects, including beat-synched goods such as sonar, slide, filter, echo and chop. Effects manipulation is possible with a separate control wheel. The ultrabright VFD matrix display shows MP3 song titles and can be switched among four information display modes, including BPM, time, cue points and an advanced waveform display. A max of 3,000 cue points can be saved and recalled. The CDX1 also sports a slot-load CD drive; adjustable startup and braking speeds; an antishock buffer; and ±6, ±12, ±25 and ±100 percent pitch control. The unit includes MIDI I/O and digital audio output. Upgrades will be available via Internet downloads.

AKG EMOTION/TRI-POWER SERIES
VOCAL MICS
The wizards at AKG have just released their new Emotion/Tri-Power Series microphones ($87-$362), which feature a unique new modular design that allows them to be used in wireless or hardwire modes. The microphones range from the entry-level D880m, a redesigned stage standard, to the top-shelf C5900m, a studio-quality condenser. The ergonomic, triangle-shape bodies of the mics are attractive and allow for optimum handling onstage. Each mic is modular in design and when retrofitted with the TM40 transmitter module can be changed from wired to wireless on the fly. All of the Emotion/Tri-Power mics include gold-plated contacts on the XLR connectors, dual-membrane shockmounts and spring-steel mesh grilles for durable on-the-road use. The optional TM40 transmitter works with the entire series.
