THE HOLIDAZE ARE HERE AGAIN

Dec 1, 2004 12:00 PM

Finding the perfect gift for your favorite technophile isn't always the easiest thing to do. How do you find something that he or she doesn't already have? Furthermore, how do you find something that your beloved elf won't hate and immediately throw up on eBay? This conundrum is all too familiar, so to ease your pain a bit, here are a few suggestions — which run the gamut from inexpensive to credit-card-damaging — that even the snootiest gear head will be pleased to own.

The Numark PT-01 Portable Turntable is the perfect crate-digging companion. The PT-01 measures a mere 12 by 12 inches, and its 7-inch platter will play both 12-inch records and 45s. The best part, however, is that the unit will run on six D batteries — so you can truly take it anywhere. On the slightly more expensive front, Apple recently released the new iPod Photo, which takes the original iPod a step further by adding a full-color screen and the ability to store and display digital photos. The new iPod Photo is available with 40 and 60 GB of storage. If you know someone who is just getting into computer recording, then the new M-Audio Fast Track might be perfect. The Fast Track is a portable USB audio interface that allows users to track vocals, guitar and bass with almost no fuss. The unit will work with virtually all recording software as well as most Mac and PC platforms. And, finally, everyone needs a good set of cans. The Ultrasone DJ1 Pro features a foldable closed-back design, two detachable cables, a spare ear pad and more. Happy shopping — and, please, no pushing.
