Just like its name indicates, Rock in Rio is a festival that is hosted in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Although it started out in Rio de Janeiro, this music festival has spread to other parts of the world. It is currently held in Las Vegas, Madrid, and Lisbon.
This festival has Roberto Medina, a Brazilian entrepreneur in charge of organizing and establishing it at the onset. In addition to being responsible for starting this music festival, Roberto Medina was also responsible for moving it to Lisbon in 2004. He was able to do this while still maintaining the brand on the festival as Rock in Rio Music Festival. This sparked up some controversy which made the festival even more popular.
Rock in Rio might not be the oldest or most popular music festivals in the world. It, however, is unarguably one of the biggest music festivals on the planet. While there are a couple of reasons for this, one of them is the fact that it is mostly held in a country like Brazil with a huge population. So far, at the Rock in Rio Music Festival held in different years, there has been up to 1.5 million attendees in a single event.
Although one of the biggest music festivals in the world, Rock in Rio Music Festival is not one of the festivals that holds every year. Its firs edition took place in 1985 while its second too place about six years later in 1991.
