Contests

Mix magazine and Blastwave FX present the Blastwave FX Sound Design Competition, a contest challenging participants to showcase their creativity by designing a soundtrack for a 30-second commercial spot using sounds provided by Blastwave FX.

The winner will receive the Blastdrive ($6,000), a 400GB HD sound effects library containing 31,700 high-definition sound effects and the Blastwave FX Search Engine. The winner will also receive a one-year subscription to Mix magazine.

After registering, participants will download a free sound-effects pack with 60 royalty-free sounds to use as their base sonic palate. Processing and manipulating the sounds is allowed and encouraged, although all of the original sounds must be from the provided sound effects pack.

The deadline for submissions is September 15, 2009.

The video clip, "Balloons," was produced by Peking, a young directing duo based in New York. Peking has garnered numerous awards for its work in the commercial world, including honors at the June 2009 AICP Show, a 2009 Kodak Vision Award and a 2009 Addy Award for “Balloons.”

Blastwave FX develops next-generation sound-effects libraries for professional audio production. Headed by Ric Viers, author of the Sound Effects Bible, its design and engineering teams push the sound envelope with innovative product formats, rich metadata, multichannel libraries and the highest-resolution audio that technology allows.
