Remixing Pro Tools: The Crystal Method Contest

Marking the release of Transfuser, the highly-anticipated virtual instrument for Pro Tools, Digidesign has teamed with electronic music pioneers The Crystal Method, artist community Fuzz.com, and Remix magazine to create an exciting new remix contest..The contest offers Pro Tools users, remixers, musicians and fans a chance to create their own original version of a brand new track from The Crystal Method’s upcoming studio album due in stores this fall.

Visit www.fuzz.com/remixingprotools to download The Crystal Method song session, create your own remix, and then upload an MP3 of your work by September 30, 2008. The Fuzz.com user community (a free membership) will vote for their favorite remixes, with The Crystal Method, Digidesign, Remix, and Fuzz.com staff reviewing the top voted remixes and selecting one winner and one runner-up to each receive a personal studio prize package. 

Since downloading the preview, The Crystal Method’s Ken Jordan has become a huge fan of Transfuser. “We are so excited to be a part of this remix contest. This will be the first time anyone has heard anything from our new album, and now you have the opportunity to remix it. We've been using Transfuser at Crystalwerks and can't wait to hear how others use it to get creative with this track.”

The RZA “Drama” Remix Contest

KOCH Records and imeem are proud to announce an exciting new contest in which fans of The RZA can flex their digi skills by creating their own versions of the Bobby Digital track “Drama” from his new album, Digi Snacks. This is the first time The RZA has officially made one of his songs completely accessible to music fans to remix.

Fans can access the contest now at http://www.imeem.com/remixtherza and download different stems for “Drama,” including the vocal stem, horn stem, drum stem, key stem 1, and key stem 2, to sample, chop and create their very own remix.

The winner of the best remix will receive $500 cash, courtesy of RZA & KOCH Records.  Mixes by the winner and top runners-up will be eligible for inclusion on a forthcoming digital release by RZA as Bobby Digital. The winner will also receive a year’s subscription to Remix magazine. All entrants will receive a 3-month subscription to Remix magazine’s digital edition.

Erykah Badu Extends Remix Contest

Universal/Motown multi-platinum-selling, Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter/actress Erykah Badu returns to the fore with her new album, New Amerykah. Erykah enlisted some of hip hop's most groundbreaking producers and engineers to support this critically-acclaimed return, including 9th Wonder, Madlib, Sa-Ra Creative Partners, Karriem Riggins, and a host of others. "The music is the star," says Erykah, "I just laid down my vocals and let the music breathe while the melodies tell the stories."

Keeping the music at the forefront, Erykah launched a contest on March 27th to have DJ's, producers/beat makers, and musicians to remix her non-album Madlib-produced buzz track, "Real Thang". The number of submissions for the contest have been tremendous. As a result, Erykah is extending the contest deadline to July 31st to allow people to submit more remixes.

The acappella of "Real Thang" can be downloaded from the remix contest page. Creativity is key, so all types of remixes are welcomed (hip-hop, r&b/soul, house, broken beat, rock, reggae, etc.).

The Grand Prize winner will receive:
