BLOC PARTY

Jan 1, 2006 12:00 PM, Erin Hutton

The past two years have seemingly belonged to Bloc Party here in the United States thanks to the incredible amount of hype surrounding the band's self-titled debut EP (Dim Mak, 2004) and full-length follow-up, Silent Alarm (Vice, 2005). Extensive touring behind the release — as well as a remix record with reworked tracks from Engineers, M83, Mogwai and others — further cemented the British quartet as America's new indie darling. And if rumors have their way, 2006 should continue that trend.

According to various reports, the band is heading back into the studio in January to work on its second album. Bass player Gordon Moakes recently revealed to NME that the group had already recorded two tracks with producer Ben Hillier (Depeche Mode, Blur), though he didn't say if Hillier would be weighing in on the rest of the record. Nonetheless, the new album is expected to hit sometime next summer. Yes, that seems like a long time to wait, but chalk it up as an exercise in self-restraint.
