J.A.M. Awards Pass Out the Honors

The hip-hop community
doled out the honors recently at the 2007 inaugural J.A.M. Awards and concert,
which honored Run DMC's Jam Master Jay, among others. Set up to "show the
world the most positive aspects of rap," the nominees for the awards were
chosen by the board members of the Jam Master Jay Foundation for music, which
was created in Jay's honor by wife Terri Corley-Mizell, DMC and his closest
friends to support music and arts education in rural and urban schools.
During the show, one
winner was announced in each of three categories. In the Justice category,
Chuck D. was the winner, presented the award by Dead Prez. In the Arts
category, Q-Tip presented to winner Lee Quinones. And in the Music category,
Everlast and Kaves handed over the award to Wyclef. The Honorary Award went to
Ivan Taback, the foundation's president, for his dedication and hard work on
the event. The performances, however, were news all by themselves. Attendees
were treated to the likes of Snoop Dogg and DMC performing the classic Run DMC
track "Sucker MCs," LL Cool J joining EMPD for "Rampage"
and Mobb Deep performing with Everlast and DJ Muggs, among others. For more
